My Review:
I have to begin by saying it took me a little bit to get invested in this story, well maybe a chapter or so, but once I got into it, I was completely addicted! Juliette runs her uncle’s wedding planning business that is currently in severe financial trouble, but the wealthy Rory Kissinger chooses her to plan her wedding. Rory’s sexy older brother Jake is an ER doctor that is not very impressed with Jules in the beginning. But I loved her quirky confidence and loved the theme of love finding us in unexpected situations and unexpected people.
This novel was funny, frustrating, romantic, sad, and happy all combined into one fabulous package. Author Kim Karr definitely expressed her sense of humor, but also touched on several serious subjects surrounding failing businesses, drug addictions, deaths of family members, and so much more. Don’t let that scare you into thinking that this is some depressing tear-jerker because it’s truly amazing and left me with a warm, fuzzy feeling. It’s just that The Thing About Love is not just a wonderful, steamy romance – it addresses real world issues and problems that any reader can identify with in one way or another.
Regarding characters, both Jake and Jules were fantastic. However, I must admit that Jake’s grandmother was exceptional, wise, and for me personally, she stole the show in this one. However, all of the secondary characters were fantastic and just added to my love of this novel.
The Thing About Love is my first time reading Kim Karr, but most definitely will not be my last. This was a wonderfully complex but “feel-good” novel that should absolutely be added to your TBR.
