My Review:
If you read my review of Anything for Love, the first of the Hunter Brothers series, then you already know that I’m a fan. It should come as no surprise that I was just as crazy about Anything for Her! This time the author tells the story of Logan Hunter and his ex-wife, Shay. They may be exes, but all it takes is a phone call to get Logan running from his current mission back to New York. Once Logan is back, however, he learns he may not have gotten the entire story on why their marriage broke up.
Logan is a somewhat typical alpha male from the beginning, as well as Shay, is somewhat of a typical stubborn woman hell-bent on doing things on her own. Despite Logan’s initial overly-alpha ways, it took no time at all for me to just completely swoon over this man. Shay, on the other hand, was a struggle for me. In addition to her general stubbornness and disregard for her own safety, I felt like she caused a lot of unnecessary hurt without enough reason. I can’t go into that because of spoilers, but I did not consider her actions some great sacrifice for Logan’s sake.
Regardless, this was an interesting and unique story flashing back between the past and present, detailing how Logan and Shay fell in love and then fell in part. Throw in some mafia crime, a sex-starved co-worker, and protective family – this becomes an overall fantastic read. I admit that I struggled relating to and liking Shay, but once I was into the novel, I was truly into it and would not stop reading until I was finished.
I may be the only one thinking this, but I’ve noticed that in both Hunter Brothers books, I struggle to like and relate to the female main character. I eventually like her, but it takes effort. Perhaps the author is trying to portray women that are somewhat broken, have issues, etc whose lives and personalities are turned around by love? Or maybe the author just relates to males better and it’s more difficult to portray her heroines in a positive light? I’m not trying to be critical, just reflecting on something that I noticed. Her leading men are basically flawless from page one, but the women had to work hard to earn my respect. Could it be an issue with me? Quite possibly, lol!
Anything for Her was a wonderful, fast-paced read that embraced so many great elements of writing including conflict, suspense, crime, romance, and fantastic chemistry between the main characters. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to read and review another of the Hunter Brothers books, and hope to read more from this author in the future!
