Havoc (Moonshine Task Force Book 3), by Laramie Briscoe
Publication: Laramie Briscoe Books (August 18, 2017)
About the book: When a marriage of convenience turns into the passion of a lifetime…
Holden “Havoc” Thompson
My job as the leader of the Moonshine Task Force is my life. I eat, breathe, and sleep it. The men under my command mean the world to me. Knowing they count on my guidance has kept my demons at bay for longer than I care to admit.
The control I have over myself is an iron fist that sometimes threatens to squeeze the life out of me. What I want more than anything is to live again – let go of the hurt smothering every bit of light I have in this darkness.
I don’t expect it to come in the form of a Moonshiner’s daughter needing my protection.
Leighton Strather
My whole life has been defined by who my family is. In the state of Alabama, we’re number one with a target on our backs. The danger and prestige isn’t for me. I don’t care about the money, and I care too much about the families we’ve ruined.
My brother and my dad are proud of it. They wear their arrest records like a badge of honor. Me? I want as far away from the lifestyle as I can get.
It’s the only reason I ask Holden to marry me. At least that’s what I tell myself.
I never expect his whispered yes to cause such upheaval in my life. Even though I resist, I learn some havoc is good – and this one? It’s a whirlwind of lust, hope, and love and all I can do is let it sweep me away.
My Review:
Oh my goodness, I did not predict how much I was going to fall in love with this one! Havoc is book 3 in the Moonshine Task Force series and can I just say holy Holden! Havoc (Holden) is the big boss at the police department and over the MTF, who during book 2, managed to steal Leighton away from her family’s life of crime. After Holden makes it his main goal to protect Leighton, the two enter into somewhat of a marriage of convenience. However, once they start catching on about how the other feels, just wait for the fireworks!
I’m so glad that the author has provided this opportunity to know more about Leighton. My first impressions of her were that she was just a poor, abused, daughter of a moonshiner, however, she turned out to be so much more. Leighton is smart, beautiful, has an enormous heart, funny, caring, and so on. She has made leaps and bounds towards changing her life and breaking away from her past, as well as, truly proving to others that she is nothing like her father. Then there is the sexy, brooding, completely delicious Holden. In the first 2 installments, he was portrayed more as being all business, all seriousness, and a quiet type. However, in Havoc, I quickly learned how incredibly sexy, loving, and dedicated this man is! It took me no time at all to fall in love with him, and especially to fall in love with the idea of them as a couple.
Havoc has a greater criminal presence then Renegade and Tank did, which led to a fantastic amount of suspense. There was a lot of focus on both Holden and Leighton’s inner struggles, as well as, Holden’s focus on bringing down Leighton’s Dad for his crimes, but there was also a lot about love, trust, and honesty.
I can’t believe it, but I think this is my favorite of the series so far – even better than Renegade, simply because I loved the development of these characters so much. I can’t recommend this one, and the series, enough!
