SYNOPSIS
USA Today and International and bestselling author J.C. Valentine is back with the latest in her captivating, enigmatic, and rousing world of the Spartan Riders MC…
They’ve been through hell and back and have the scars to prove it.
Kade “Moose” Hunter doesn’t tolerate drama. He’s cocky, unapologetic, and all about the quiet side of life.
That’s why Mouse fits him so well.
Angel “Mouse” Grace isn’t like the other women hanging around the club. She’s sweet and gentle, and when Moose gets her engines revving, her passion burns bright. She’s the yin to his yang, and Moose is almost certain she’s the one, but life is never that easy for a Spartan.
The catch? Their town is falling apart.
A cesspool of crime and addiction, the Spartans face yet another challenge: confront crime lord Manuel Contreras and risk war, or worse, death. When Angel’s kid sister rolls into town and takes a shine to the Spartan’s mortal enemy, Moose is torn between doing what’s best for his family…and what’s best for his love life.
Will he be able to strike a balance, or lose everyone he cares about in the process?
*NOTE* COCKY can be read as a STANDALONE! Although a part of the Spartan Riders series, COCKY features a brand new couple, therefore, can be read as a standalone!
**My Review**
Welcome to my stop on the tour for the final installment in the Spartan Riders series, Cocky. This time, J.C. Valentine finally gives us Kade’s (Moose’s) story about his blossoming relationship with Angel (Mouse). He’s crazy about Angel and is contemplating a future with her, but in the meantime, Angel’s sister Rena blows into town and starts dating none other than Manuel Contreras, a criminal and enemy of the Spartans MC. J.C. Valentine wraps this series up perfectly as Kade navigates through his feelings for Angel and the rest of the Spartans try to create a safe town for all of those that they love.
I have to start by gushing over all of the swoon-worthy moments between Kade and Angel! Despite his tough, stubborn exterior, we really get to see a sensitive side to Kade in this book. Well, as sensitive as he can be! It was sort of funny to me that he called her Mouse and that at times I felt as if she were acting somewhat mousy and submissive. However, I loved that as the book progressed, Angel started being more verbal and assertive about what she wanted, asked questions when she was confused about things such as wearing his patch, and really considered what she wanted and needed from Kade.
As much as I loved finally getting Kade’s story, I loved the entire novel and all of the smaller subplots. Especially surprising was Contreras’ point of view. Granted, he’s still no saint by any means, but it was unique and refreshing to see his point of view and watch him develop a relationship with both Rena and his daughter. When he questions Cricket about his intentions, it was hilarious and completely relatable as far as fathers and daughters.
I must admit that I’m so sad to see this series come to an end. J.C. Valentine introduced me to MC novels when I read the first in the Spartan series, Grit, and I have been in love ever since! This also led me to her Forbidden series and the Blind Jacks MC series, so basically – this woman is addictive! I highly recommend Cocky to any lovers of MC novels mixed with romance, crime, and suspense – but I recommend starting at the beginning with Grit. You can read them as stand-alone, but I think you will enjoy them much more reading them in order!
