SYNOPSIS

For ten summers Claire and her mother had been guests at the Prescott’s beach house at Kelly’s Cove. And for ten years she played with Mallory and her twin brother, Colin. But it wasn’t until she returned after college graduation for her last summer there, that she realized Colin had grown into a guy who made her knees knock just by smiling at her. Being from different worlds, she knew nothing would come from her attraction to him.

Having returned to the states from studying abroad for four years, the last person Colin thought he’d find staying in his bedroom was Claire Ashton. Lanky and awkward during her adolescent years, he had to look twice to make sure this was the same girl. After a week together it was obvious he’d overlooked something before, because he felt things for her he’d never experienced before. There was only one problem—his last name and all that came with it would never permit him to be with her.

In the end, it’s either love or prestige that will win in the game of love.

**My Review**

Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for Julieann Dove’s Rewrite the Stars! Claire has been going to the beach house with the Prescott’s since she was a young girl, although this summer will be the first since her mother passed away. Feeling a bit out of place without her mother, Claire heads to the beach home where she spent her summers playing with Mallory and her brother Colin. Although, once Claire and Colin come face to face again after many years, they quickly realize how much each has grown up and can’t help but feel an attraction towards each other. The only problem? Colin is expected to be with a woman that his family approves of regarding status and wealth – which doesn’t include Claire.

Rewrite the Stars is a romantic read about one of the oldest stories in the book – two people who fall in love but it’s not acceptable to the parents. I identified with and liked Claire much more than I did Colin, mainly because of his inability to stand up to his parents and defend the young woman that he is supposedly madly, crazy in love with. Granted, his father was a complete ass, but I still wanted him to support Claire more than he did.

Avoiding spoilers, of course, I will say that I was very pleasantly surprised by the ending, which I never saw coming. The author had me happily fooled all the way up to the “aha moment” that I loved. However, although I loved the premise of the story and the overall plot and characters, I struggled with the writing style. I hate including any criticism in a review that I cannot completely explain, but there was something about it, maybe choppy sentences? Or it could have been intended to be that way to show Claire and Colin’s immaturity and inexperience in life? I’m not exactly sure but something about it didn’t flow well with me.

Regardless, this is a great novel for lovers of contemporary romance, especially blended with ample conflict and twists of fate. Congrats to the author on this release!
