About the book:
For twenty-four-year-old Skye Winters, criminal profiling is the perfect career: helping solve cases without all the emotional baggage. When her cousin, Kortney, becomes the latest in a string of young women to vanish, Skye’s professional and personal lives collide. Cue the nuclear mushroom cloud.
Amid the fallout, Skye meets Wes Carson, the mysterious and smart-mouthed new biker in her father’s motorcycle club. She tries to ignore their chemistry, even after accepting Wes’ aid in the search for Kort. Then one spontaneous afternoon takes them over the edge, forcing Skye to consider she might be in love. Too bad it’s with a liar.
Unraveling Wes’ lies leaves Skye ensnared in an FBI investigation, making her question her profiling skills and her heart. With Wes in danger, her affection overrules her caution with disastrous results. Will Skye survive to solve the case, save Kort, and still salvage a relationship with Wes?
**My Review**
Welcome to my stop on the tour for Celeste Straub’s Leather and Lies. This novel is part romance, part MC, and part criminal/police/FBI – but regardless of what the main theme or classification is, it’s a great read.
The main character, Skye, is a criminal profiler and gets pulled in to help with an investigation regarding her missing cousin by both her family and the local police department, despite the fact that she’s getting ready to move to D.C. for a new job. At the same time, her Dad and MC club leader announces that he’s letting a new guy, Wes Carson, live in the clubhouse apartment due to his recently relocating to the Wilkes-Barre area after a nasty divorce. Skye quickly finds herself frustrated about Kortney’s missing person case, as well as, her attraction to Wes.
I love novels with an MC component, but add in a criminal investigation and romance – then I’m all in! Straub’s debut novel proved to be suspenseful, exciting, mysterious, romantic, and funny all at the same time. I don’t want to get into the plot too much more than I already have, but I loved the spin Straub put on Kortney missing, as well as, how so many different situations seemed to tie together.
I also have to mention Celeste Straub’s outstanding characterization skills. She truly made me love some characters, while there were also characters that I absolutely despised. For a debut author, I was quickly impressed by her characters and the way they evoked so many emotions within me while I read. The bad guys and girls were bad, Skye and Wes were perfectly complex, and the supporting characters seemed to be included and characterized just right.
Leather and Lies was a very enjoyable read and provided me the hint of romance that I love, combined with suspense and crime. I definitely recommend this one and look forward to reading more from this author in the future!
