**My Review**
Welcome to my stop on the tour for Karen Tjebben’s latest in her Savage Security series, Lizzy’s Kiss. Unfortunately, I have not read the previous books in this series but believe me that it doesn’t matter, you can still enjoy this one!
This novel is part crime, part psychological, and part romance. Lizzy is completely infatuated with Tyson, who is dating someone else. Tyson sort of has the hots for Lizzy but is trying to be respectful. Sam is completely crazy and has decided to kill the jurors that sent his son to prison, and one of those is Lizzy.
This novel started out a bit odd and slow for me. Lizzy seemed like this desperate, needy, sexually frustrated young woman and was somewhat annoying. Then, I had no clue who anyone was and there is no clear POV. One second, the story is being told by this person, but then it’s someone else, and then another person without any chapter changes or any real division. This was confusing and I’m not sure why it was done this way. On one hand, it will keep a reader on their toes because they’ll never know who is going to talk next…. But I still struggled with it and it made me go back and re-read several pages.
As I read on, Lizzy became less of an annoyance and ended up being likable. However, although Sam was the “bad guy” of the novel, he was probably the most interesting character. As I was reading, I felt that I gained more insight into who he really was, versus the little glimpses provided regarding Lizzy and Tyson. Yes, he was sick, psychotic, and so forth – but I felt he was the most developed character in the novel.
Throughout Lizzy’s Kiss, I had several back and forth moments trying to determine how I felt about the book. As I said before, Lizzy wasn’t a fantastic main character and her best friend Grace (the main character from a previous novel in the serious) was quite possibly the flattest and most under-developed character that I have ever read (and I read a book a day.) However, I enjoyed the overall plot and action of the novel and found myself truly engaged in the story.
As far as the ending…. I just don’t understand. Why pour so much detail into a book and then just suddenly stop? Perhaps it’s just me, but I need a bit more closure than that. What happened next with Tyson and Lizzy? What happened with Sam? Will this be continued in another novel? Ugghhhh the questions!
Anyway, overall I enjoyed this novel. It was a fun, quick escape into the fictional world of suspenseful romance. If you aren’t overly detail-oriented and just want a fun read, then check this one out!
