**My Review**
Welcome to my stop on the tour for Karen Tjebben’s The Making of Daisy Hart! Being a North Carolina girl myself, I was excited about this one with the setting in coastal North Carolina (I’m guessing based on the Outer Banks area). This novel is about Cassie Bowmont, who during her summer break from teaching, rents a house in a small coastal town to pursue her true dream and write a novel. When initially greeted by horrific weather, she just happens to meet the incredibly handsome and chivalrous Chris Walker, who is successful in property management but has had bad luck with love. As fate keeps putting them together, Cassie and Chris find themselves falling hard for one another, but know that it can only be a summer fling.
I really enjoyed this book. I had some issues with the execution of the plot, but I found myself engrossed in this one and truly wanted to know what would happen with Cassie and Chris.
Some things I didn’t like were… The opening sequence with the rain and storms seemed to go on forever. And I mean, forever… Also, although you should not ever mention grammar in an ARC, the grammatical issues were so bad that it literally caused issues with my following along with and enjoying the story. Lastly, although the big moment prior to the resolution was relevant and exciting, it seemed to come and go a bit quicker than appropriate.
So, what did I love? Karen Tjebben’s characterization! By the time I finished reading this one, I felt as if I knew her main characters as if they were family, and I’m pretty sure I could give a good character description to the cops regarding Staci and Mark. She brought these characters to life but also bared the deepest parts of their souls, as well as, their deepest desires and dreams.
Even better was her imagery with her setting. I’m not sure where she was imagining when she created Avenel, but I’m going with the Avon/Frisco/Waves area of the Outer Banks. I could feel/see/hear every raindrop, amount of humidity, and the relief of the cool breezes.
Overall, I loved this novel. I absolutely loved Cassie and Chris, loved the setting and loved the storyline. I give this one a heartfelt recommendation!
*Thank you to RABT and the author for providing this copy in exchange for my honest review.
Karen Tjebben lives in central North Carolina with her wonderful husband, twin daughters, and two hamsters. When her girls left for kindergarten, Karen discovered that she needed to fill her days with something, and that was the beginning of her writing career. She loves to create worlds filled with unique characters that she hopes will delight and raise goose bumps on her readers. In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her husband and seeing the world through her daughters’ eyes.
