**My Review**
Welcome to my stop on the release blitz for Cole Lepley’s start to a new MC series, Toxic. I have to admit that I don’t read tons of MC novels, but it’s like this secret pleasure I have to indulge in every once in awhile, and I loved this one! Sloan is new to Arizona, starting over after relationship fails and has secured a new HR job at the hospital. Flynn is the President of the Thanatos MC and is beautiful, cocky, and lives a dangerous life. After randomly bumping into one another twice in one day, Flynn makes it his mission to win Sloan over, despite her wanting nothing to do with bad boys. But the chemistry is undeniable from the beginning and it doesn’t take long for Sloan to start looking at Flynn differently.
Flynn is the epitome of MC novel perfection. He’s all muscle and tattoos, he’s got an attitude a mile wide, and is crazy sexy. It took me all of a few pages to be completely wrapped around his finger. I also loved Sloan but her character was weird in that she changed so quickly. She has nothing but attitude when it comes to Flynn, goes on and on about not wanting bad boys anymore and then it’s like a flip is switched and all of the sudden she becomes this sweet and almost demure character. So maybe lust/love soften her up, but it was a sudden change.
Why is Toxic different from other MC novels? First, it respectfully and accurately deals with mental illness. I don’t recall ever reading an MC novel where the main alpha/hero has mental health struggles, but this worked beautifully into the plot and really expanded the characterization and development of Flynn. Not only was his character handled well, but the reactions, concerns, and feelings of the secondary characters in relation to Flynn’s behavior was spot on. Secondly, as far as MC novels go, the sex is really toned down in Toxic. Of course there is sexual activity and some perfectly steamy scenes, but it isn’t rushed or brought to the forefront like I have seen with so many MC novels. The focus was more on their emotional part of their relationship which was very refreshing.
Toxic was my first time reading this author but certainly won’t be the last. This novel has all of the wonderful, juicy, exciting things that reader’s love about MC novels, but also has that little something extra to make it stand out in this genre. I highly recommend this to any MC fans or especially those that haven’t tried MC novels yet, this would be a great entrance into that genre. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series!
