Layla

Owen Riggins is too good to be true… the best things in life usually are. He’s good looking, generous, and interested in me. Too bad someone like him and someone like me aren’t meant to be together.

He’s used to the best things in life, and I’ve grown up with the worst. Building a better life means working hard and staying on track, not falling for some sexy suit with a brooding stare who is just passing through.

Life has taught me not to trust, and even though I want him more than anything, I don’t need his charity or his love…

Owen

When a friend sends me to Florida to scout out a hotel, it’s the gorgeous waitress with the shy smile and the worn-out shoes I can’t take my eyes off of.

Layla Massey is quiet, beautiful, and in need of a little help— even if she won’t admit it. A generous tip was meant to buy her some suitable shoes, not buy her love. I want to earn that all on my own.

I’m used to women throwing themselves at me, the name, the money… but she wants neither. It makes me want her all the more.

Little by little, she opens up and piece by piece, she’s taking my heart.

**My Review**

Welcome to my stop on the release blitz tour for Kaylee Ryan’s latest installment in her Riggins Brothers series, Piece by Piece! Owen seemed like the very serious and quiet type in the previous books, so I was in for a ton of surprises this time around. While travelling on business, Owen meets Layla, a waitress in the restaurant in the hotel he is staying. He notices his beautiful waitress limping and that she needs new shoes, so each night after he finishes his meal, he leaves her these enormous tips. As they get to know each other, he also takes her along on a shopping excursion, helps get her car fixed, and so on. Layla immediately assumes that Owen is too good to be true. Layla finds herself in the weird predicament of enjoying his attention, although she doesn’t want hand-outs. Owen finds himself falling for this woman who has no interest in his money.

I am really enjoying the series and love the brothers, as well as, the wonderful secondary characters that support the main cast. If you like families that will drop everything and do anything for one of its members, then this is definitely a novel that you will enjoy. Layla is strong and independent, which she has to be after surviving her horrible upbringing and getting away from her mother. Her character is sweetly confused by everything Owen does for her, as well as, the way his family accepts her with open arms. Most importantly, if you are a fan of insta-love, then you will devour this novel! These two go from zero to sixty in no time at all.

Now… If you are not a fan of insta-love, this may not be your favorite read ever. This is probably the fastest insta-love I have ever read and to be honest, I struggle with it at first. Don’t get me wrong, I loved their story. However, you really have to suspend disbelief in order to enjoy this one because of how fast they move. My only other criticism is how often he says “piece by piece” in their dialogue. I understand that this is the name of the novel, but did he have to say it so much???

If you love a strong, quiet, alpha male – you will fall in love with Owen! This is a great novel to just get lost in and enjoy. It reminds you that your life doesn’t have to be defined by your upbringing, and moreover, that everyone is deserving of love and happiness.

4 romantic stars!

Book Review: Kentucky Rain (Whiskey River Road #4), by Kelly Moore

Kentucky Rain (Whiskey River Road #4), by Kelly Moore

Publication: August 20, 2020

About the book:

A law-abiding man, breaking all the rules and dodging love. I’ll either run her off or give her my heart.

I threw in my hat, giving up my job as a lawyer to become the one thing I swore I never would…a cowboy. I’ve lived on my father’s ranch my entire life, but never learned how to be a rancher’s son. Instead, I was urged to become an attorney by my father, who doesn’t live by the letter of the law.

Now, I’m left picking up the pieces of my life, trying to figure out who I am, and what I want. Trouble is brewing for me, I can feel it in my bones, especially when my friends-with-benefits relationship with Margret starts to feel like something more than I have to give. She deserves a better man than me.

My plan is to keep her at arm’s length. Her plan is to pull me in closer

**My Review**

Welcome to my review for the latest in Kelly Moore’s Whiskey River Road series, Kentucky Rain. Finally, we get Wyatt’s book and get to figure out what goes on in the mind of this mysterious man! Without giving away too much information for those that haven’t read book 3, Kentucky Rain picks up with Wyatt still trying to heal and come to terms with his injuries and his guilt over not better protecting Ellie. He’s pushing everyone away, especially the extremely patient Margeret. Wyatt, along with the rest of his family are all struggling in their own way, but Wyatt’s journey is emotional, complex, and makes the ending all the sweeter.

This is the 4th book in this series so I have become very familiar with this family, except for Wyatt. He has always seemed uptight, straightlaced, and honestly – boring. Kelly Moore completely brings Wyatt to life in this one, making me realize that he’s anything but boring. Wyatt is dealing with physical and emotional pain, guilt, and most of all anger. The first part of this book is so stressful at times as you literally watch the unraveling of a man. Long gone is the responsible and upstanding mayor and attorney. Instead, Wyatt is almost like a ticking time bomb. While reading his story, I knew everything would eventually blow up, but I wasn’t sure exactly how or why.

In addition to Wyatt’s situation, there was continued tension between Clem and Boone over Boone’s broken promise. Chet is being ornery and impossible as always. Bear and Nina are still trying to rebuild their relationship since Nina’s return, and Ellie and Ian are also working through the emotional and physical residue of  Watkin’s attack. Mix all of that together with getting to know the newest Calhoun’s, Noah, and Jane, and there is a lot happening in this book! There are moments that I laughed out loud and moments where I wanted to cry, but regardless of which emotion I was experiencing, I never wanted to put this one down.

Kentucky Rain is darker than the previous books in the series in a lot of ways, but still has those overall themes of love and family. The characters are stubborn and by no means are they perfect. They are flawed and stubborn and seem to make a thousand wrong decisions before finally getting it right. But that’s one of the things that I love so much about this series. Moore’s characterization and plot development are astounding, but something that always grabs my attention is her ability to place as much emphasis on the subplots and secondary characters as she does the main. The result is a perfect literary blend of western romance, comedy, drama, and suspense into one amazing package.

As always with this series, I highly recommend Kentucky Rain and wish there was more than a 5-star rating because it truly deserves more. However, if you haven’t discovered this series yet, you will want to start with the first and read them in order (see below).

coming homeComing Home (Whiskey River Road, book 1)

A cowboy. An empty altar. Coming home is complicated.

What stopped me from walking down the aisle to the perfect man? My stupid rebel heart, that’s what.

I loved Boone Methany with everything I had, but I wanted more than just the ranch I grew up on and training horses for the rest of my life. Leaving him on our wedding day wasn’t something I planned on. Neither was coming back to my family ranch after seven years in the military just to eat a heaping helping of crow.

I thought I was prepared to see him again. What I wasn’t ready for, was him being engaged.

Coming home is about to get mighty complicated.

stolen heartsStolen Hearts (Whiskey River Road, book 2)

A thief and a single father don’t bode well. She’s snarky, and sexy which can only lead to two broken hearts.

It was a day like any other on the ranch.

Hard work and no play makes for a cranky cowboy. Needing a night out on the town left me sneaking in my father’s house like a teenage boy.  That was my first mistake of the day.

The second was playing hero to a damsel in distress that turned out to be no damsel at all but a sexy, snarky woman who took me by surprise.

How you ask?

I’d been a ladies man.  That is until I became a father.  My rebel days were gone. A six-year-old sassy daughter changed all of that for me.  I didn’t need the complicated messy kind of love stuff. My hands were full.

A mission into town to handle a family issue would make my life more muddled. The day I met the woman who would steal my heart.

A thief. A woman on the run.  A woman with one too many secrets.  A woman whom I had to save because if I didn’t, I feared she disappear and take two hearts with her. I wasn’t prepared for the danger she was in and the decision I’d have to make. She’d hate me for sure.

I definitely wasn’t prepared for her to leave.

three wordsThree Words (Whiskey River Road, book 3)

Wild at heart. One hot cowboy. A heap of trouble.

What stopped me from saying the three words Ian wanted to hear? My stubbornness that protected my heart, that’s what.

A handsome cowboy with a hot body and a sense of humor to boot, Ian Daughtry was everything a woman could ask for. He was downright pretty to look at. The day he left my world spun out of control. It changed me inside. I was no longer the sweet, innocent girl. Instead, I became the wild child desperate to feel anything but love.

Now he’s back, slipped into town unbeknownst to me. My family knew but didn’t want to tell me, afraid it would rip me apart.

I have a news flash for him. I don’t care how hot he is, he ain’t gettin’ me back. This woman has done fine on her own. But boy howdy… just seeing him he sent me in a tailspin. One that might get me in a heap of trouble.

Meant to be More (Meant to Be Series, #4), by Amelia Foster

Meant to be More (Meant to Be Series, #4), by Amelia Foster

Publication: June 25, 2020

meant to be moreAbout:

My best friend has spent the past several years traveling the world with Doctors Without Borders. It’s been her life’s dream and something I’ve always admired about her. But somehow, after twenty years of friendship, our last goodbye brought about the realization of a truth I hadn’t yet recognized.

I don’t just respect Jillian, I am in love with her, and it’s time she knows.

But upon her return home, she manages to lay her own shocking news on me before I can even form the words to tell her how I feel. It seems she needs access to the fortune her grandfather left her in his will. But there’s one problem.

The caveat being an antiquated, but ironclad stipulation that she can’t receive the funds unless she gets married and stays that way for eighteen months.

Naturally, I’m the only person she can trust with such a delicate arrangement. And I’m also hopelessly in love with her, so I’ll greedily take the chance to fake-marry my best friend.

This way, I can prove to her that we are meant to be more than just friends.

**My Review**

I’m so excited to review the final installment in Amelia Foster’s Meant to Be series, Meant to Be More! I must admit that this is a bittersweet moment because I have adored this series and don’t want to see it end, but this may have been my favorite in the series, so it went out with a bang.

In Meant to be More, we get the story of the youngest Carlisle brother, Dean, and his best friend Jillian. She has been traveling the world with her job but is finally returning to Asheville. Dean has a huge secret to tell her because he realized this time that she was gone, that he had fallen in love with her. Before he gets to explain to his best friend that he loves her as more than friends, she asks him to marry her in order to fulfill stipulations of her grandfather’s will.

So, the basic premise of needing to get married because of stipulations in a will is kind of silly in this day and age. However, it worked beautifully in this story. I mean, what better way to push two people together that are living in denial about how they really feel? Typical of Foster’s writing style, this story was told from Dean and Jillian’s dual POVs and also went back and forth between past and present from when they first met at seven years old to when they were graduating from high school. I will admit that the present-day storyline held my attention the most, but the past storylines provided a great deal of history regarding what shaped each of them growing up and how they developed their amazingly strong bond.

Meant to be More is a happy, romantic, and sexy read that leaves you feeling every warm and fuzzy emotion imaginable. This book is pretty much drama-free except for their internal conflict about their feelings and Jillian’s snooty mother, but it didn’t need a bunch of conflict and challenges to make it a beautifully complex book. This is about two people that have always loved each other as friends as they try to come to terms with their changing feelings and potential risks to their friendship. You will laugh, cry, and swoon while you read this one. I cannot recommend this one enough!

*Although part of a series, you do not need to have read the previous books to enjoy this one! They are all stand-alones!

**My Review**

Welcome to my stop on the release blitz tour for Jennifer Hanks’ latest in the Dimarco series, Charlie. Unfortunately, I think this is also the last in the series, which destroys my heart, but once I got into it, I quit being sad and just sat back and enjoyed!

Anyone who has followed this series knows that Charlie has been around since the beginning, seeing that she is best friends with the only Dimarco girl, Grace, and considered part of their family. Charlie has always thought that Ben looked at her like a little sister, although she has been crazy over him forever. Ben did think of Charlie like a sister for a while, but then suddenly everything changed and he realized the kind of feelings he had all along. But as it always is with the Dimarcos, someone has to be lurking in the background trying to destroy everyone’s happiness, and this time, it’s Ben’s ex.

Confession time. When I signed up for this blitz I didn’t realize it was part of a series. Therefore, prior to reading Charlie, I went back and read all 6 (and a half) books in the Dimarco series. And I read them in three days. That’s how addictive this series is!

Like all of the other installments in this series, Charlie is full of sweet romance, sexy moments, conflict, suspense, and most of all family. Charlie is the perfect romantic, yet sassy female lead. And finally Ben gets to reveal his romantic side that we have hoped was there all along. This book probably had the most stressful external conflict of any of the other books, but it was absolutely worth it in the end. Charlie is a page-turner, will keep you on the edge of your sweet, will make you swoon, and make you cry. It is the perfect combination of happiness, angst, and romance. I absolutely recommend Charlie to fans of contemporary romance, especially friends to lovers romance. You don’t necessarily have to read the entire series to enjoy this one, but it will make much more sense and besides – every book in the series is amazing.

**My Review**

Welcome to my stop on the tour for Kathleen Shoop’s latest, The Thief’s Heart! When I saw this tour and signed up to participate, I didn’t realize that this was a series, much less the fourth book in the series. But, guess what? It didn’t matter! Although I think reading the other books would have increased my understanding of the characters, I still knew what was going on and it didn’t impact my enjoyment of the book overall.

Anyway, this novel is set in Des Moines in 1892 and the Arthur family is living in the old servant quarters and working for wealthy businesswoman, Violet Pendergrass. The main focus of the novel is on fifteen-year-old Tommy and all of his challenges pertaining to work, money, resources, family, friendships, bias, crime, and so on. This poor child is put through it from beginning to end! He desperately wants to take care of his mother and sisters, he’s trying to make money any way he can, he’s trying to go to school, and all the while, he’s struggling to avoid his trouble-making “friends,” his desire for whiskey, and a crooked Judge that seems out to get him.

Other than his family that he loves dearly, the only bright moments in Tommy’s life center around his crow named Frank and of course, the unique and tortured redhead, Pearl Riverside. Pearl has suffered unimaginable hardships in her life and escapes her reality at her post office job where she sneaks and reads other peoples’ letters. Her character is beautifully raw, honest, and innocent and I immediately fell in love with her.

There are so many secondary characters and subplots to this novel, I could probably work on this review all day and not touch on everything. But despite so much going on, it doesn’t feel overwhelming while reading. Don’t get me wrong, you will be stressed out for the majority of the book wondering and hoping if anything will go right for Tommy. That’s simply because his character quickly pulls you into the story and you so badly want everything to work out o.k. for him and pray for a solution to all of his family’s problems.

Historical fiction is not my go-to genre by any means. I am absolutely more of a women’s fiction or romance kind of girl. However, I am frequently surprised by how much I love this genre. The Thief’s Heart is a shining example of wonderful historical fiction. From the dialogue to the clothing described, as well as, the ideals of the characters and the norms of the time period, this was a well-written, intelligent, and touching novel. My only complaint at all is the ending. It’s not an ambiguous ending, it’s not a cliffhanger, nor is everything wrapped up in a neat package. I guess the best way to describe it is, if there is another in this series, which I hope there is, I will certainly read it to find out what happens next with Tommy, Pearl, and Tommy’s family. But if there wasn’t another in the series, it would still be entertaining and leave the reader hopeful that they all eventually get their happy endings or at least some sort of peace in their lives. I would have preferred more closure, but I still highly recommend this novel.

The Last Letter Series of novels by Kathleen Shoop is set in the Midwest of America in the late 19th and early 20th century. Shoop takes readers on an emotional journey through love, loss and redemption. Inspired by family letters, the novels pull from historical events and places and feature the life and times of the fictional Arthur family as they make their way in the world.

Letter Series Book 1 – The Last Letter

Katherine wouldn’t have believed it if she hadn’t found the letter…

In the summer of 1905 Katherine Arthur’s mother arrives on her doorstep, dying, forcing her to relive a past she wanted to forget. When Katherine was young, the Arthur family had been affluent city dwellers until shame sent them running for the prairie, into the unknown. Taking her family, including young Katherine, to live off the land was the last thing Jeanie Arthur had wanted, but she would do her best to make a go of it. For Jeanie’s husband Frank it had been a world of opportunity. Dreaming, lazy Frank. But, it was a society of uncertainty–a domain of natural disasters, temptation, hatred, even death.

Ten-year-old Katherine had loved her mother fiercely, put her trust in her completely, but when there was no other choice, and Jeanie resorted to extreme measures on the prairie to save her family, she tore Katherine’s world apart. Now, seventeen years later, and far from the homestead, Katherine has found the truth – she has discovered the last letter. After years of anger, can Katherine find it in her heart to understand why her mother made the decisions that changed them all? Can she forgive and finally begin to heal before it’s too late?

The Family Letters

Luckily for author Kathleen Shoop, her ancestors kept hold of letters that are now between 100 and 120 years old. The first set of letters was handed down to Shoop from her mother. They appear in the collection called My Dear Frank. They are sweet and hopeful love letters written to Frank Arthur from his then-fiancé, Jeanie Scouller, between July 1882 and May 1883. My Dear Frank only contains Jeanie’s letters to Frank, as his were lost or destroyed at some point. However, for readers who love to bask in the past, Jeanie’s letters make it easy to understand much of what Frank had said, as she responds as quickly as she possibly could. (Read more about My Dear Frank.)

The second set of letters, Love From Mama, was written in the early 20th century. This collection is larger than the love letters as it contains correspondence by Jeanie, Frank, her children, some friends and also relatives. Book Tour, Review, & Giveaway: This is Love (Harmony Pointe, Book 2), by Melissa Foster

Fall in love in Harmony Pointe, where hearts are lost, found, and sometimes misplaced…and everyone get a happy ever after.

If a woman can’t find love in the quaint town of Harmony Pointe, it’s sure to find them—whether they’re looking for it or not. Here, the remaining single Dalton siblings are about to discover that they’re next in line to get swept away by love. A sweet and sexy spin-off of Melissa’s beloved Sugar Lake series.

Actress Remi Divine is sick of bodyguards, sick of stalkers, and sick of feeling like she is always under a microscope. But this movie star isn’t helpless by any means. She’s got a rebellious streak and she knows how to use it. First order of business: Getting rid of the overbearing bodyguards who are sticking to her like glue.

Mason Swift has made protecting others his life, and when Remi ditches his two best men, he takes over and gives it everything he has. Having grown up in the foster care system, and as an ex-special operative, he knows all the tricks. Nothing gets by him, especially not gorgeous, sneaky, and rebellious, Remi.

He thinks she’s a diva. She thinks he’s arrogant. But when sparks turn to flames and their walls come down, their hearts are revealed and their connection is unstoppable. But when tragedy strikes, Remi realizes that being protected isn’t the worst thing in the world—but losing Mason just might be.

**My Review**

Welcome to my stop on the tour for Melissa Foster’s latest, This is Love! This exciting and suspenseful romance is a bit different from Melissa Foster’s usual happily-ever-after love stories, but it is so good! Actress Remi Divine is at her wit’s end with the bodyguards hired by her brother due to a stalker situation. Mason Swift steps in as Remi’s bodyguard when she keeps slipping away from his two best men assigned to the job. Although it is insta-lust for each of them, things start off a bit bumpy as Remi tries to get used to Mason’s rules and Mason must adjust to being so attracted to one of his clients. Things quickly heat up between them, but it’s so much more than that. Feelings keep getting stronger, but Mason still must deal with whoever is threatening Remi and keep her safe.

I loved this book and I’m embarrassed to admit the obscene number of tears I shed during the last 10% or so, so we won’t talk about that. But – and I hate to say this because I love Melissa Foster more than my beloved red wine – a good amount of this novel reminded me of The Bodyguard. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great movie and this book was so much better – but it all felt a little Whitney and Kevinish to me for a while.

bodyguard meme

If you’re confused about that meme, read this book – you will get it.

However, as the novel progressed, I realized This is Love far surpasses The Bodyguard and in no time at all, I had completely forgotten about Whitney and Kevin (Rachel and Frank, whatever).

This novel is about absolute, no-holds-barred soulmates. People that were just waiting to find one another, yet never knew what exactly they were missing. The passion, connection, love, and chemistry between Remi and Mason is completely off the charts. They instantly feel like a couple when they’ve only just met, and I assure you that your heart will go wild as you read their story.

But even better, this funny, romantic, and emotional romance also shines a light on such a huge issue in society, which is children in the foster system. My father was raised in foster care and during my years as a special education teacher, I always had several children each year that were part of the foster care system. In this novel, Mason shares some of his hardships in the foster care system which are heartbreaking. But keep in mind that this was written this year and the character is thirty-four years old. My father entered the foster care system in 1952 in Baltimore, MD. The stories I could share would bring you to your knees, but they are irrelevant because he found his forever family eventually and none of the other yucky stuff matters anymore. But Mason and Remi’s idea about the birthday boxes has all kinds of wheels churning in my brain about all the things that I could go without, and instead, set aside something for those in foster care. So, thank you to Melissa Foster for reminding me about this important issue at a time when I needed it.

Back to my original purpose, as always with Melissa Foster’s novels, I highly recommend This is Love. It’s a different type of story than what you are used to with Foster, but it will give you all the feels, leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy, and quite truthfully – make you think about the things that really matter in your life, such as love, friendship, and giving back.

Call Her Mine (Harmony Pointe Book 1)
Ben Dalton has always been honest, except where his heart is concerned. He’s been in love with his best friend—saucy, smart-mouthed Aurelia Stark—forever. But Ben’s a planner, and timing has never been on his side. When he finally decides to make his move, Aurelia beats him to the punch with a move of her own—to a different town.

Aurelia loves her new life in the charming town of Harmony Pointe. She has a great apartment and her very own bookstore, and best of all, the sinfully hot, commitment-phobic friend she’s crushed on for years is no longer just around the corner. Maybe she’ll finally be able to leave her unrequited love behind and move on.

But when a baby is left on Ben’s front porch—a baby that is presumably his—Aurelia is there for him. Neither one knows the first thing about babies, but how hard can it be? Ben and Aurelia are catapulted into a world of love, laughter, and tracking down the baby mama, and it might even add up to a very happily ever after . . . just not one either of them expects.

Book tour, review, & giveaway: Taming My Whiskey, by Melissa Foster

Buckle up for a wild ride as Dixie Whiskey finds forever love in TAMING MY WHISKEY, a funny, sexy, and emotionally riveting standalone romance by New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster. The perfect love story for those who enjoy fiercely loyal and insanely sexy alpha heroes, smart, sassy heroines, strong family bonds, bikers, babies, and more!

In TAMING MY WHISKEY…

Being the princess of the Dark Knights motorcycle club doesn’t come with a white knight or a fairy-tale castle, and that’s okay, because Dixie Whiskey has never needed a man to slay her dragons or make her whole. Even so, after watching each of her brothers fall in love, she’d sure like a shot at her own happily ever after. But with the Dark Knights watching over her and the only man she’s ever wanted out of reach, she’s not holding her breath.

As the launch of Silver-Stone Cycles’ biggest line approaches, Jace Stone is left needing a favor from the one woman who holds the power to take him to his knees. He knows when it comes to sinfully gorgeous and sharp-tongued Dixie Whiskey, he must stay on his toes and keep his walls firmly in place. But Jace needs her for his business—and Jace Stone always gets what he wants.

When the tall, gruff, and darkly handsome biker presents an opportunity that any other woman might see as the chance of a lifetime, Dixie turns him down flat. But Jace is determined, and he pulls out all the stops—sending Dixie’s overprotective brothers up in arms. Rebellious Dixie takes a stand—going after the freedom, and the man, she’s always wanted. One scorching kiss leads to an undeniable connection, but Jace isn’t looking to be tied down, and Dixie refuses to play second fiddle. Can two untamable hearts find forever love in each other’s arms?

The Whiskeys are perfect beach reads with depth of story, strong family ties, and a wealth of emotions. Small town love stories with happily ever afters guaranteed.

**My Review**

Welcome to my stop on the tour for Melissa Foster’s Taming My Whiskey! This latest installment in her Whiskey series is about the one and only Whiskey daughter, Dixie, and the sexy quiet Jace Stone. Jace is in a bind with a business situation and Dixie is busy prepping for her charity bachelor auction when Jace shows up with a proposition that Dixie refuses. But the always stubborn Jace doesn’t give up too easily and luckily for him, Dixie sees an opportunity to stand up to her overprotective brothers and live her own life. Little does the other know that they may have always had a little crush on each other, but unfortunately, they don’t have the same dreams when it comes to romance and relationships.

I was so happy when I saw that Dixie was finally getting her own story and I absolutely adored this book! Dixie has always been beautiful and kind but also badass and a bit rough around the edges. However, Melissa Foster has painted a completely different picture of Dixie in Taming My Whiskey which made me love her character even more than I already did.

I have no idea where Jace came from, but oh how glad I am to have met his character. I’ve wracked my brain trying to remember him from earlier books and just can’t place him. However, all that matters now is that I have fallen head over heels for this character. Tall, hot, sexy, tatted biker – check. Sweet, caring, family-oriented guy – check. A successful, creative, and very wealthy business owner (although you would never know it) – check. He’s almost too perfect, but don’t worry, some flaws rear their ugly heads. How about calling or texting a girl Jace???

Jace wasn’t the only one with flaws, of course, but each of their issues and fears made their story that much more romantic and it was filled with the suspense of what would happen next with this incredible duo. There was sexual tension, heart-break tension, and at times, tension related to the question of, “will Jace end up being beaten to death by Dixie’s brothers before this is all said and done?” But there were also endless happy moments and a ton of humor that contributed to this being such an engaging and romantic book that I could not put down.

I can’t decide which of Melissa Foster’s series that I love the best, which is a good thing since so many of the characters cross into other novels, but I have always had a soft spot for the Whiskey family. Technically, this could be read as a stand-alone but I highly suggest starting at the beginning of this series so you’ll have a crystal clear understanding of Dixie’s life growing up with brothers and an entire motorcycle club scaring away any potential guys before she ever got a chance to get to know them. I highly recommend this to any contemporary romance fans, but especially those that are into dreamy, romantic, yummy biker guys! This was an amazing story that I know I will go back and read again.

Book Review: Coming Home (Whiskey River Road, #1) by Kelly Moore

Coming Home (Whiskey River Road, #1), by Kelly Moore

Publication: October 15, 2019

whiskey riverAbout the book:

It was my big day.
The day I’d marry the man of my dreams.
So what stopped me from walking down the aisle to the perfect man? To my happily-ever-after?
I loved him but I ran away.
To what you ask?
A life I thought I wanted. Far away from the only life, I’d known. The only man I’d ever loved.
I was a rebel. It’s my only excuse.
Boone didn’t deserve any of it. He was sweet, protective, and one hot rancher.
He’d make any girl blush just looking at his handsome face.

What a day it was supposed to be.

I never thought I’d see him again but Coming Home after seven years is all I can think about.
I knew little about his life now and was damn sure he wouldn’t want me in it.
He had to hate me.
I wasn’t prepared for him.
I definitely wasn’t prepared for him to be engaged.

**My Review**

I’m so excited to bring you my review of the upcoming new release from Kelly Moore, Coming Home (Whiskey River Road, #1)! This fresh and unique novel is about a young woman Clementine Calhoun, returning home to her family’s Kentucky horse ranch for the first time in seven years. And, as she expected, not everyone welcomes her with open arms. Why you ask? Because all those years ago, Clem left without any warning, abandoning her horse training, her family, and worst of all – leaving her fiancé Boone Methany literally standing at the altar. After time spent in the military, Clem returns with her best friend Ethan, hopeful that she can resume training horses, start her own cybersecurity business, and get back in the good graces of her family. Oh, and she either needs to get Boone back or get over him once and for all.

There’s a long list of players in this one, other than Clem and Boone, including Chet and Amelia Calhoun (Clem’s parents), Wyatt, Bear, and Ellie (Clem’s siblings), Missy (Clem’s niece), Margaret Maynard (Boone’s fiancé), and Tom Maynard (longtime enemy and hater of the Calhouns). Seems like a big cast, but each character is wonderfully unique and plays a very important role within the novel. Clem’s mom, sister, brother Bear, and Missy are happy to have her home. Everyone else, not so much. Therefore, a great deal of the plot initially focuses on Clem’s attempts to make amends with her father and with Boone. Anyone even remotely familiar with any family discord will relate to and cringe at some of the dialogue that passes between Chet and Clem, but I also promise you’ll be clapping and crying tears of joys with Clem’s victories both small and large.

Speaking of crying, yes there are some sad moments within Whiskey River Road, but most tears will be tears of laughter thanks to the absolute hilarious personality Moore has created in Clem Calhoun! The banter between Clem and Boone, Clem and Ellie, and Clem and Ethan will have you laughing at loud with all of their names for various body parts and there is an especially wonderful moment when Clem is drowning her sorrows at the local bar and starts singing about all of her problems. But God love Clem, the poor woman just keeps on going no matter life brings or even when she brings it on herself.

An enormous part of this novel is all things involving ranches and horse racing, which has been executed in an intriguing yet realistic way. Horse fans will absolutely love this, and those not as familiar will become just as invested in the ins and outs of ranching. Prepare for Moore’s writing and imagery to completely transport you to the Calhoun ranch where you can smell the stables, hear the horses running, and see the cattle out in the distance. I can easily close my eyes and picture the main house, the cabins, and especially Chet sitting on his porch with his rifle by his side. But an even stronger impact of her writing is the emotions that it evoked while I was reading! I hated the Maynards (of course), found myself rooting for the horses, celebrated with the characters, and was completely heartbroken a time or two along the way.

What’s the most amazing thing about Whiskey River Road? Kelly Moore’s unrivaled plot development. This author has the magical ability to take an already strong and interesting plot and add so many unexpected twists and turns that it turns her books into a complete addiction for the reader. There were several times reading this when I thought something was going to happen in a certain way, but then something else came along or just didn’t work itself out the way I expected. This novel quickly became such a page-turner and at the end of every chapter, I was dying to know what would happen next. Take note that this is a “read in one sitting” novel because I assure you that you will not be able to put it down once you start.

I cannot express how highly I recommend Whiskey River Road, although I struggle to specify a certain audience that it is most suited for. Fans of romance, comedy, family drama, horses and ranching, suspense, sagas, and feuds – the list could go on forever – will love this novel. I’m not even sure what genre this will technically be classified as because it beautifully represents them all in one amazing package. Not only is Whiskey River Road unlike anything I’ve ever read by Kelly Moore, but it is also unlike anything I’ve read ever. The magnificent characters, the phenomenal plot development, and a setting that dreams are made of all make up one of my favorite reads ever.

*Thanks to Kelly Moore for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!

**CONTENT WARNING: Due to mature content, recommended for readers aged 18+**

**My Review**

Welcome to my stop on the tour for Melissa Foster’s newest installment in her Bradens and Montgomerys series, Wild, Crazy Heart. If you like on-again-off-again romances that finally come to a head – then this one is for you!

After heading off to Paris for something (summer vacation?), Brindle returns to her family, as well as, to the sexy man Trace that she has had an ongoing fling/break-up/make-up thing with for years. Everyone’s shocked to see that she’s pregnant, but what’s even more surprising is the curveball Brindle throws everyone. Thus begins a roller-coaster of ups and downs as Brindle and Trace decipher their real feelings for one another, they prepare for a new baby, and they each take a hard look at their short-comings.

I loved this book as I love all of Foster’s books! I’ve been rooting for Brindle and Trace for a while so, of course, I was thrilled to read their story. Wild, Crazy Hearts certainly showed new sides of each of them – some good and some bad. There was romance, hot and steamy moments, and frustrating moments on both of their parts. As is typical of these novels, their families and friends just added to the fantastic story adding plenty of “awwwww” moments as well as, several laughs.

Let me say that I read this one twice. The first time was the day I received it and the second time was a few days ago prior to writing this review. What I’m still unclear about is why Brindle was so weird about the whole commitment and love thing anyway? Yes, there were some things explained here and there about her way point of view on love, marriage, etc. but this young woman comes from an amazing and loving family while also being surrounded but numerous friends that have found love and have (or had) happy and successful relationships. So what was her deal? Also, I had somehow missed before that Brindle was a high-school teacher. Being someone that taught high school in an extremely small town where everyone knew everyone’s business, I was a little surprised that her ongoing extracurricular activities, etc. were o.k. considering her position. But that’s neither here nor there. Just an observation!

Back to the good stuff, this novel is sweet and romantic, has a happy ending (of course!), and was a completely entertaining read. Melissa Foster never fails in reeling me in with her amazing characterization and storytelling. Can’t wait to read more about these characters in the future!

EMBRACING HER HEART
Embracing Her Heart (The Montgomerys Book 1) by [Foster, Melissa]Leaving New York City and returning to her hometown to teach a screenplay writing class seems like just the break Grace Montgomery needs. Until her sisters wake her at four thirty in the morning to watch the hottest guys in town train wild horses and she realizes that escaping her sisters’ drama-filled lives was a lot easier from hundreds of miles away. To make matters worse, she spots the one man she never wanted to see again—ruggedly handsome Reed Cross.

Reed was one of Michigan’s leading historical preservation experts, but on the heels of catching his girlfriend in bed with his business partner, his uncle suffers a heart attack. Reed cuts all ties and returns home to Oak Falls to run his uncle’s business. A chance encounter with Grace, his first love, brings back memories he’s spent years trying to escape.

Grace is bound and determined not to fall under Reed’s spell again—and Reed wants more than another taste of the woman he’s never forgotten. When a midnight party brings them together, passion ignites and old wounds are opened. Grace sets down the ground rules for the next three weeks. No touching, no kissing, and if she has it her way, no breathing, because every breath he takes steals her ability to think. But Reed has other ideas…

ANYTHING FOR LOVE
Embracing Her Heart (The Montgomerys Book 1) by [Foster, Melissa]After Charlotte Sterling loses her last family member, she moves to Sterling House, her family’s Colorado mountain inn, to live a solitary life. As an erotic romance writer, her days and nights are filled with passion and intrigue-even if only fictional. She loves her busy, quiet lifestyle, and she learned early on that real men can’t live up to the fictional heroes she creates-until ruggedly handsome Beau Braden arrives to do some work at the inn and, for the first time in forever, she’s intrigued by a real man.

Beau lost his first love years ago, and he’s never let go of his guilt over her death. As he nears the anniversary of his loss, he is on the cusp of becoming the star of a home-renovation reality show. Escaping the painful memories of his past to work at the defunct old inn is just the promise of solitude he needs to clear his head before diving in to the all-too-public career. But he didn’t count on being attracted to the whimsical, adorably sexy innkeeper.

Neither Charlotte nor Beau is looking for an attachment or a fling. But the more they learn about each other, the closer they become. Romantic evenings lead to intimate conversations, and neither can deny their deep connection or the passion it sparks. They’ve never fully healed on their own, but together maybe anything is possible.

The Bradens & Montgomerys are part of Melissa’s Love in Bloom big-family romance collection. All Love in Bloom novels are written to stand alone and may also be enjoyed as part of the larger series, so dive right into this fun, sexy romance.

TRAILS OF LOVE
When Graham Braden travels to Oak Falls, Virginia to attend the wedding of his buddy Reed Cross to Grace Montgomery, he sticks around to help with renovations to Reed’s new theater. The last thing he expects is to be asked to assess and possibly invest in Grace’s sister Morgyn’s business endeavor. Graham is a careful, keen businessman, and Morgyn is impulsive, disorganized, and more interested in the energy flow in her eclectic retail shop than in the accuracy of her records. While Graham isn’t ready to open his pockets to the sassy, sexy business owner, he may be ready to open his heart.

Book Tour, Review, & Giveaway: Mad About Moon (The Whiskeys), by Melissa Foster

Wicked Whiskey Love: Sexy Standalone Romance by [Foster, Melissa]

NEW RELEASE……..

Fall in love with Jed and Josie in this emotionally captivating, sexy standalone romance by New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster.
The perfect love story for those who enjoy fiercely loyal and insanely sexy alpha heroes, smart, sassy heroines, strong family bonds, bikers, babies, and more!

Can true love strike twice in one lifetime?

Josie Beckley refuses to believe there is a limit on happiness. A decade after she escaped her abusive parents and lost touch with her siblings, the death of her husband leaves her and her son homeless. But Josie has never been one to wallow in sadness, and when she takes a chance on reconnecting with her siblings, a sinfully handsome bright light from her past shows up and offers to help her find a way out of the darkness.

Most people wouldn’t see Jed Moon as someone to look up to. He’s been in and out of jail and has lived a less-than-stellar lifestyle. But years ago one woman saw through his bullshit, and he’s never forgotten her. Now she’s back in his life, and as a prospect for the Dark Knights motorcycle club, Jed promises to keep an eye on the sassy, sexy single mother who has never stopped lighting his fantasies on fire.

Jed and Josie’s combustible connection is stronger than ever. Having Josie and her son in his life brings out all of Jed’s protective instincts-and visions of a future he never imagined having. But when a shocking revelation knocks the insatiable lovers to their knees, it forces them to make choices that could change their lives forever.

*My Review*

Welcome to my stop on the book tour for Melissa Foster’s latest in her Whiskey series, Mad About Moon. This perfectly titled romance is about Jed (Moon) and Josie, as well as, Josie’s young son, Hail. After growing up in an abusive household and being separated from her siblings, Josie finds herself living in a women’s shelter with her son after the death of her husband. Although her siblings have reached out to Josie, she hasn’t felt ready to reconnect with them. But when she shows up at her sister Sarah’s house on Christmas, Jed, a Dark Knights prospect, sees Josie and thinks she may be the girl that he hasn’t stopped thinking about for many years. When the Dark Knights voice concern about Josie, of course, Jed steps up to check on her, hoping it’s the same girl from the bonfire years ago.

I wonder if there is anyone that doesn’t absolutely love this series? The Whiskeys are absolutely the most loving, accepting, and wonderful group of people I’ve read about. Sweet and sexy Jed fits in with them perfectly. From the way he interacted with Josie and Hail, to his attempts to set a young man on a better path in life, to his devotion to the Dark Knights… All I can say is, yum….

Anyway, I absolutely adore second-chance romances and although they all met and spent one night together, neither had forgotten the other – making this reunion so much sweeter!

But then there is Josie… I do love her character and of course, I wanted her to get her HEA, but for some reason, I struggled to connect with her. She was a presence in Sarah and Bones’ book so she was familiar already, but even after reading this entire novel, I don’t feel as if I know her or that I can imagine her in my mind as well as other female characters in this series. Nevertheless, I still loved this book.

Melissa Foster has once again created a book with the perfect blend of sexy biker guys, conflict, achievements, romance, friendship, and family. Mad About Moon will absolutely make you fall head over heels over Jed, but more than that, Foster has given readers an unputdownable book that touches on every emotion while providing that fantasy romance mixed with real-life and relevant issues. I highly recommend this one but to truly understand and relate to Jed and Josie’s story, I suggest starting at the beginning of the series or at least starting with Wicked Whiskey Love about Bones and Sarah!
